Customization with Minecraft - Server will not start with forge, only vanillia

Problem Description

Issue

I am trying to get forge version 14.23.5.2860 (1.12.2) , but the server only manages to load vanilla , I tried installing forge through the minecraft part of the configuration settings, and nothing works.

Reproduction Steps

  • Put server files in (Mod list, configs, ect)
  • Downloaded forge from the configuration tab (also tried their website and importing it)
  • Tried to start the server

Make sure you have Java 8 selected

Thank you, it worked, how do I know which java version to be using in the future? Is it always just java 8 for forge or does it vary on game version?

It varies depending on the modloader and MC version you’re on.
