Unable to import server.properties

OS Name/Version: Debian 12

Product Name/Version: AMP v2.6.1.6

Problem Description: Cannot get server.properties to import in Minecraft Java Instance.

Steps to reproduce:

  • Step 1: Open file manager, right click on server.properties and select import.
  • Step 2: Verify under configuration if import was successful.
  • Step 3: Cleared browser cache and confirmed that the import was not successful.

Actions taken to resolve so far:
Made numerous attempts and none were successful.
I am at a complete loss as to what else to try.

What settings specifically aren’t importing?

None are importing as far I can tell, but to be more specific, motd, gamemode, difficulty,max-players, op-permission-level, and probably others.

They all import fine for me. The UI should tell you if it’s unable to import a setting, then you can go and enter it manually.

It does list the settings that it didn’t import, but none of them are the settings I care about. It also says that it imported 43 settings successfully, but that does not appear to be the case. I even tried a different browser with no luck.
I don’t understand why it would work in your case but not in mine.
There was a time a few AMP versions ago that it did work for me.

When you start the server are the settings written properly to the file? I wonder if the UI might just be delayed, but they imported properly under the hood.

No, the settings in server.properties are overwritten by the UI settings.
Is the import process part of the Minecraft module or an AMP process?
The MinecraftModule.kvp file does not show the imported changes either.

It’s part of the Minecraft Module to my understanding. You could try clearing your browser cache, or try a different browser, see if that’s somehow part of the issue.
Or check the browser console to see if there’s any weird errors.

As I mentioned above, I have tried clearing the browser cache and a different browser.

This is what is shown in the console when selecting import.

Starting file transfer job -1 - server.properties VM482:779
Finishing file transfer job -100 - server.properties VM482:706

Ah, forgot that bit.
Yeah, not too sure what’s going on there; might be a weird case of “looks fine but it isn’t”.
Though I do have another idea on where to look.

Inside the instance’s settings set Logging Level to Debug, then try importing again.
Then back out to the main web UI and press the folder icon on the bugged instance and grab the latest log from under AMP_Logs and share what you see there.
Might be some odd internal error due to one of the settings serializing weirdly, but that’s just a guess.

Sorry for the delay, I was having internet issues yesterday.
I did what you said, but there doesn’t appear to be anything in the log related to importing server.properties. I have no idea why the Minecraft Bedrock references are there, I am using the Java version. I tried the import twice, at 19:30:00 and 19:35:00. Here is the log:

Just tested myself to see if the logging would be any different, and yours looks fine as far as I can tell. I was kinda hoping there’d be an error somewhere so we could narrow things down further.
Mind sending over the properties file? I’ll see if I can replicate the same behavior in my own setup, or at the very least that’ll tell us if it’s the file itself or the instance being weird about it.

Here it is. There is a blank line because I had to remove a certain entry as it is apparently not allowed. It has to do with a certain sensitive mode.

Yeah that’s really strange. I tried what you have there, and when that didn’t work I brute-forced down the list and none of them seem to be importing correctly. I wonder if there was something in a recent update that regressed something, cause I could’ve sworn I used it the other day when setting up a server.

Looks like a bug or two was introduced here at some point, next update has some fixes (and some improvements) to how MC config importing works.

Thanks Mike. I think you may have helped restore some of my sanity.
Thank you also PotatoKing. I appreciate all your help.
