Problem Description

Issue

I originally tried playing this mod pack with it zipped (oops) and came across the problem of the versions not aligning, though even after I unzipped the files the server refuses to run on version 18. I’ve looked through the “how to change minecraft version” page and I’m changing the right section so I’m not sure what I’ve done wrong.

Reproduction Steps

  • Installed unzipped mod folder for Vault Hunters 3rd Edition (curseforge)
  • Started server on version 21
  • Tried to join server, vault hunters runs on 1.18.5 so server wouldn’t connect
  • Changed java version to 18 on hostinger
  • Server crashes/refuses to start up

Vault hunters runs on Forge 1.18.2, select Java 17 as the runtime environment for that MC version (different from the MC version).
Then make sure you select Forge as the modloader, then select the version of Forge the pack needs

Okay so I’ve found out how to get the server up and running (actually did just that - changing the forge version and then setting the java to 21; it also works with 17)

The problem now is that anyone that tries to join is told my server is missing mods needed for the pack, when I can clearly see in my mods folder that they are there and not missing.

The mod jars from the server modpack on curseforge? Because the client manifest zip wouldn’t have what you need.

I’m not entirely sure what you’re asking, but I downloaded the modpack from curseforge, I’ll provide a screenshot to show where I got it

What I mean by my previous reply was I looked at the list it gave me of “missing mods” and went into the folder both on my computer and the server list I had it download and looked for specific mods to match each list. Each mod I looked for was there.

The mod *.jar files are unzipped and in the mods folder correct?
Because if they are not in that folder, or if they are inside some other folder, they will not load.

If you want to attempt it again, you can find the server pack here:
https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/modpacks/vault-hunters-1-18-2/files/5925838/additional-files

So I tried again with the download you recommended, made sure I was clicked into the mods folder created in the File Management section, and still no dice. It still insists I’m missing mods even thought I hadn’t moved anything in or out of the unzipped folder

All the Jars are in the mods folder, correct? Not some random inner folder?

I made a folder in this section, and put the vault hunter’s folder in it (zipped, but altogether in one folder) and that was what i was doing originally, then I thought I could take out the few things inside the '“Vault Hunter” folder and put them in the mods folder in case that wasn’t doing it

I’m still running into the issue so im doing something wrong still; ive never done anything like this before so honestly ive no idea what im doing

That doesn’t work yeah, they need to be .jar files, the same jar files from the server pack zip I showed there.

The manifest.json and modlist.html are exclusive to CurseForge, and have nothing to do with a Forge/Fabric/NeoForge server, the server doesn’t know how to read it.

So you mean to say I need to just input the file I download from the link you sent, into the mods folder, don’t touch it, and then hit start server? After changing the forge version and java version, of course.

Because I’ve been doing that and it isn’t…working :frowning:

No, you must unzip it and put the jars in the mods folder, because modloaders can only read .jar files, not zips, not jsons, nothing but .jar files

Okay, I downloaded the file (starting over fresh so I know what to focus on). I unzipped it. I put it into the mods folder. It said “no”. So I clicked into the vault hunters folder itself and tried putting in the “mods” specific file (the one containing the .jar files). It said it needed to be zipped. I zipped it, put it into the folder on the server, it still denied me. I took all 148 .jar files from the vault hunters “mods” folder and tried putting them into the server folder, it told me they needed to be zipped.

I am so lost and frustrated, the guidline on hostinger showed this to be an easy process and I feel as though I’m missing an obvious solution because I don’t understand computer lingo. I just wanna play minecraft, man.

Did you unzip it after you uploaded it? You can do that by right clicking the zip.
You can also upload things using SFTP, with a client like WinSCP or FileZilla, as those tend to handle large quantities of files easier.

I’ve been uploading them with WinSCP, which has definitely helped, but I unzip them before uploading them to the mods folder
