Problem Description

Issue

Minecraft server needs Java 8 JDK. The JDK is installed but not selectable in the dropdown box. The server will launch if launched from the desktop, however this means there is no AMP functionality. I just need to know how to get the JDK to be selectable in the drop down box. (I have restarted multiple times, and searched online for a solution already.)

Reproduction Steps

  • Download a Mincraft Forge modpack
  • Try to start said Forge modpack
  • Realize your using the wrong JDK
  • Look for the correct JDK. in this case Java 8 JDK
  • Realize you cannot select it in the JDK selector box
  • Double Check its installed (It is)
  • Start crying about it

Stop/start the instance from the main panel to refresh the Java versions list
If that doesn’t work, install Java 8 from here: https://adoptium.net/temurin/

I tried both of these and neither of them worked. Stopping and starting didn’t do anything besides throw errors in the console. Installing Java 8 didn’t do anything either. I restarted my PC already, and I also restarted the amp service. I cleared my browsers cache but that also didn’t help.

After much frustration I’ve ended up doing a clean install of AMP. I ended up installing Java 11 to test if it would show up. Java 11 Has shown up in the dropdown box but Java 8 is still missing.

(EDIT)
After Reinstalling AMP and redownloading and reinstalling Java 8 It is finally showing up.

I meant stopping/starting the instance from the main panel, not stopping/starting the MC server from inside the instance. (because the Java runtimes list is updated whenever the instance starts).
After that point if it still doesn’t show, you check if you’re installing it to the default location, and/or that you’re properly adding it to your PATH.

Reinstalling AMP isn’t suggested as a troubleshooting step.
