Issue

Tried too update, to get it startet. After downloading and trying to update i got this message: This task could not be completed: Starting Counter-Strike 2… - - State: 3.
Please Help

Your product version seems up to date, which is good. To diagnose this issue, we’ll need to have a look at the logs for your Counter-Strike 2 instance.

To view the logs for the instance, you can run the following command in your shell:

ampinstmgr lastlog [INSTANCE NAME]

Once you’ve got the output from that command, you can copy+paste the content here.

Secondly, did you get any specific error messages besides ‘This task could not be completed: Starting Counter-Strike 2… - - State: 3.’ when you tried to start the instance? Any additional details will help.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for providing the logs. The error message we're interested in is this one:

Launcher Error: A CPU that supports the SSE4.2 instruction set is required.

The error means that your processor architecture doesn't support SSE4.2 instructions, which are required for running the game. As you're using a virtual machine (QEMU KVM), it's likely you'll need to enable these instructions in your virtual machine settings.

If your physical processor supports SSE4.2 but your virtual machine doesn't, you will need to reconfigure your VM to enable SSE4.2 support. If your physical processor does not support SSE4.2, I'm afraid you won't be able to run the game on this machine.

The bot did an awesome job here! If you happen to be on Proxmox you should choose host as the CPU type. This is a common issue we’ve run into. :slight_smile:

Tom, if you'd like to follow IceOfWraith's advice and you're using Proxmox as your hypervisor, changing the CPU type to 'host' in the VM's configuration might help. As he mentioned, this issue arises when the virtual machine doesn't have access to the host's full instruction set.
