Others cannot connect to terraria server

OS Name/Version: Ubuntu Server / 24.04.2

Product Name/Version: AMP / 2.6.1.6

Problem Description: I am unable to get my friend to connect to my terraria server that I have set up. I am unsure why it will not let him connect and it will let me connect to it. I am at a loss on what steps to take or where to look for help to get this running so my friend can connect.

Actions taken to resolve so far: I have tried restarting my server. I have tried turning it on and off. I have tried to make sure the port was forwarding properly through my router (It was listed when I logged into my Service Provider website and looked through there).

Hey coolsnake_360,

I saw your post and wanted to help out! Since you’re able to connect to your Terraria server but your friend can’t, here are a few things to check:

Steps to Try:

  1. Verify External Access – Use CanYouSeeMe.org to confirm your server’s port is open to the internet. If it’s closed, firewall rules might need adjusting.
  2. Check Server Binding – Make sure your server isn’t bound to localhost (127.0.0.1), as this prevents external connections. Try setting it to your machine’s local network IP.
  3. Review AMP Settings – In AMP, confirm that your instance allows external connections and check if any network isolation settings are interfering.
  4. Direct Connection Test – Instead of a domain or hostname, have your friend connect via your public IP and port to rule out DNS issues.
  5. ISP Restrictions – Some ISPs block certain ports or prevent servers from being hosted. If possible, test using a VPN or a different network.

Let me know if any of these steps help or if the issue persists—I’d be happy to troubleshoot further!

Cheers,
Francisco
