Issue with Installation of AMP Instance Manager - stuck on "Creating AMP Instance; Downloading AMP" window

Hi Everyone!
Need some help with the install of AMP Instance Manager on Win11PRO PC, that is supposed to be our home dedicated server for games, but I can’t even get through the initial install as the manager installer is stuck for hours on “Creating AMP Instance; Downloading AMP” window after setting up login and password.

OS Name/Version: Windows 11 Pro
Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.26100.2894]

Product Name/Version:
Believed to be AMP ‘Phobos’ 2.6.0
downloaded on 22/JAN/2025 AMPSetup.msi size: 168,204KB

Problem Description:
the .msi installation runs without visible problems.
Can’t get through the initial initialisation after starting “AMP Instance Manager”.
The manager installer/initiation takes the initial information for login and password, loads the initiation screen and then it gets stuck for hours on “Creating AMP Instance; Downloading AMP” window after setting up .

Task manager in windows is showing AMP Instance manager with minimum processor engagement and after few moments, the network engagement falls to 0 and no progress is visible - tested leaving for over 2hrs, no change…

Following the task manager investigation, “Analyse with chain” showing that the AMP IM is waiting for another process, dwm.exe - but I can’t figure what’s the expected outcome.

When trying various solutions from the forum, first discovered that the ADS01 is not running. then followed the Linux thread advice and found the AMPDatastore folders are being created but despite download speed falling to 0 (assuming the download has finished) , but the folders are empty.

Not sure what the connection to dwm.exe is, but happy to run more tests to help fix the issue for everyone.

Limited to the one media in the post - will try to add other screenshots in the follow-up posts.

Steps to reproduce:

  • Step 1: Clean Windows 11 Pro system to start with,
  • Step 2: download installer and run.
  • Step 3: initialize AMP Instance manager either from the desktop icon or via the file in the installation folder,
  • Step 4: Enter the admin name and conforming password
  • Step 5: Press “Continue installation” button
  • Step 6: Wait, watch the window, open the Task Manager, watch and breathe…

Actions taken to resolve so far:

  1. Uninstall and re-install (as per Windows Server issue forum thread) - didn’t work, same effect.
  2. ran installer and “fix installation” - didn’t work, same effect on the next run.
  3. following a Linux forum thread - deleted folders , run fix and initiated - didn’t work, same effect on the next run.

Are you able to reach cdn-downloads.c7rs.com - /AMP/ ? We’ve had some changes today in terms of how the downloads are handled. So you could possibly still be behind in DNS propagation.

I can reach the address in the browser.
Happy to set my DNS to your address’ on my network settings for this machine if you would like to test that.
I’m tapped in UK and used standard Google DNS’ for this unit, but this was happening even before I’ve changed the network settings to static.
Current DNS’:
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4

Edit:

I’m trying to use the installer from the latest DEV folder, will update on the result.

Edit2 250124@00:05:

Used the newest installation file after removing the old version and still getting stuck on the same screen.
Downloaded from the folder:
https://cdn-downloads.c7rs.com/AMP/Mainline/20250122.3/

Try opening a command prompt and running ampinstmgr quickstart instead.

So… it seems like it’s not finishing the download of the zip file…

I can download it from the repository in full, but I guess that won’t help…

also, Application Port Exclusions have not been specified, using any available…
I’ve made 8080 and 8081 available for AMP hence guessing that’s why it’s using this one…

Its a bug. We’re about to ship a fix shortly.

Happy to help with testing, Mike, just let me know how would you like to proceed.
Could share a Teamviewer session for you to access this PC.
Please let me know.
Regards,
K.

In about 15 minutes, download a completely fresh copy of the instance manager etc and start the process again, and you should be all fine.

Working through the day, but as soon as I find a minute will try the new install.

Do you want me to test just the installation from repository or whole process like for the normal user?
I’ll attempt the download through the website (could compare the versions to check if the DNS is working)
and then: install via normal msi run, fire up to check if it’s working
and if it doesn’t- then will attempt install using the command.
Will post update after done.

UPDATE 2025/01/24@13:50

Hi Mike!

Tested the new version (confirmed different size of the downloaded file) and unfortunately outcome is the same…
After the normal auto-run post install, entered required details (admin & password) has been hanging on the same window, I’ve tried installation with the command.
It still gets stuck at about 75% of the AMP_x86_64.zip download, and then nothing…
