Issue where server says it doesn't have the same mods as my client

OS Name/Version: Windows 11/Debian 12

Product Name/Version: Hostinger “Phobos” v2.6.1.2

Problem Description: I believe I have properly uploaded my modpack from curseforge to my file manager. Initially I was not unzipping the file inside the mod folder, but it was still behaving like many of the mods were downloaded. Only ~40 of the 300 mods said they weren’t installed, and that remained the case after unzipping. When attempting to join server, I’m met with a message that I have more mods than the server does. I have made sure to download the modpack using the “download server pack” button (which has strangely disappeared now. Anyways, I have tinkered and researched this for many hours and can’t seem to find my solution.

Steps to reproduce:

  • Step 1: Install BMC4 (The modpack) on curseforge
  • Step 2: Edit modpack by adding and removing some mods
  • Step 3: download server pack and install into mod folder within file manager
  • Step 4: Unzip file
  • Step 5: Restart and update server
  • Step 6: Run Minecraft using modpack on curseforge
  • Step 7: Be greeted with message that I have more mods than the server does

Actions taken to resolve so far: I began by checking file manager for said mods; they were there, not absent. So I knew I had the mods installed and they were all the correct version. I attempted to remove some of the mods from my client, but they were integral mods and it threw off the whole pack. Removing one mod caused issues with 8 others, so it wasn’t feasible to narrow down the pack, because it would lose half of what it was before done. I have tried deleting and reinstalling everything, being extra careful, but received the same outcome.

I’d suggest testing the modpack without modifications first, to make sure things are all properly set up. I’d wager you uploaded the client manifest zip, which doesn’t do anything on a server.

General list of things to check:

  • Download the server pack zip from the modpack’s page on the CurseForge website (found under Additional Files).
  • If the zip contains an extra “inner” folder, unzip it on your PC and re-zip the contents before uploading it to AMP.
    • Alternatively you can try using AMP’s file manger to zip the “inner” folder, then unzip it in the server’s main folder to “barf” out the contents
  • The zip does not go in the mods folder, it must be uploaded to and unzipped in the “main” server folder.
  • Only .jar files can be read from the mods folder, any other folders or zips will be ignored by the modloader.
    • The right location for the mods folder being <main>/mods, and not <main>/SomeFolder/mods
  • Once you’ve done that, select the modloader (Server Type) and version that the pack needs to run in AMP’s settings.
    • You can find the modloader and version information either in your launcher, or in the bottom corner of the Minecraft main menu screen.
