OS Name/Version: Debian 11/Windows 2019

Product Name/Version: AMP v2.4.1.2

Problem Description:

We have been running Linux AMP stand-alone for some time in our data center. We would now add a Windows Node. Is there a way to convert our stand-alone linux node to a Hybrid? Hybrid is “not recommended”. Can someone expound on that? Will we be able to convert our hybrid to target and add an instance controller at a later time?

Hey @SuperHeroHamilton,

I saw your post and wanted to help with your AMP multi-node setup. Since you’ve been running a stand-alone Linux node and want to add a Windows node, here are a few things to consider:

Steps to Convert to Multi-Node:

  1. Hybrid Mode Considerations – Hybrid setups (where a node acts as both a controller and a target) are not recommended due to potential performance and management issues. It’s generally better to have a dedicated controller and separate target nodes.
  2. Converting Standalone to Hybrid – While possible, this isn’t officially supported. You’d need to manually configure the Linux node to act as both a controller and a target, but this could lead to unexpected behavior.
  3. Recommended Approach – Instead of converting to hybrid, consider setting up a new Windows controller and then adding your Linux node as a target. This ensures better stability and scalability.
  4. Future Conversion to Target – If you do go hybrid, you should be able to later convert the hybrid node into a target and add a dedicated instance controller, but this may require manual reconfiguration.

Let me know if you need more details or guidance—I’d be happy to help!
