Problem Description
Issue
Hi team. Im trying to get some friends to join my Palworld instance but they are unable to join due to a server timeout issue. I have gone through portforwarding and allowed the ports on my debian server through but im still having issues. Hoping to get some assistance on this one and will provide any information required
Reproduction Steps
- Portforwarded all ports in modem
- Logged into server using Primary connection link on local network - success
- Attempted direct login to server using same credentials while on hotspot - failed
Could be a few things. Make sure you have forwarded all the ports and verify the router settings against the instance page. Make sure you have them forwarded to the correct ip for your server… unless you have your server pc as a static address, that ip could change frequently.
Lastly check firewall settings on the server to make sure everything open there to the outside connections.
When i port forwarded the ports. i did it to the static ip address of my server. But i have seen article posts about public ip addresses. Is there a way to set the Connection Info of the instance to a public ip address instead of my servers static ip. want to see if i switch it to the public ip address it changes.
What i have checked
-Server has a static ip address and i have port forwarded to that ip address
-Confirmed the ports with the instance page.
-checked the firewall settings on the server and confirmed all ports were set to allowed
If your behind a router, no you won’t be able do post the internal address as it won’t resolve. You could get around that using something like Tailscale, but then anyone you want to play with would also have to use it and you give them an invite to that IP.
Do you know if your internet provider has you behind CGNAT? I know that can cause issues with server connections like this.
Previous instances i have created had a setting called Connection Mode that allowed me to use the Steam Relay network. Does the Palworld instance have anything similar to that. looking through the settings i noticed no connection mode. a quick search found nothing either.
Based on some research it does look like im behind CGNAT. i would suspect that is the issue. Any recommendations on how to resolve the issue from here?
You can try using playit.gg but latency may be an issue. Nevertheless I would probably try that first.
Otherwise, if you are just having with close friends, Tailscale is an option but as i noted, they have to install it too.
Last thing I can think might be wireguard setup. Complicated but there is guide here
Edit… if your able to use the steam relay on other games, play.it actually might be best overall as that is basically using a relay system.
I was able to get it working using playit.gg like you recommended. once i went through the setup process i provided the playit.gg ip address to my friend and they were able to join with no problems. Thanks for the help!
Confirmed the issue i had was the CGNAT. Was able to work around this by using playit.gg
Glad to hear it! Might mark this as a solution so others find during search.
