Problem Description
Issue
Whenever I try to connect to the astroneer server on the client it says connecting but it never loads in the game. The firewall is not causing an issue.
Reproduction Steps
- Create an astroneer instance
- Start the server
- Attempt to join through the lan ip and the public ip
- Port forwarding was done
You can only use the public ip to connect to Astroneer
Can someone outside your network connect?
I tried connecting outside my network it didn’t work. It shows up as being online but I am unable to actually load into the server and keep getting a failed to connect error.
I checked the console and it threw up this error:
error: XDG_RUNTIME_DIR is invalid or not set in the environment.
That can be ignored. Can you show the Support and Updates tab for the instance, specifically the executable and arguments at the bottom?
Looks good. Did you make any changes to the client?
No its just the normal base game from steam
As a sanity check of your networking, can you connect to:
168.138.13.215:7779
It works just fine. It connects me normally.
Then the issue lies with your port forwarding, and otherwise with your network
