Problem Description
Issue
Over the course of operating our dedicated game server, configured for exclusive use by 4 players, we’ve encountered a persistent and troubling issue related to memory management. Despite initial configurations and routine maintenance, the server exhibits a continuous and gradual increase in memory usage, indicative of a memory leak. This escalation persists over time, leading to degraded performance and, ultimately, the necessity for manual intervention to reboot the server and clear the memory cache. The problem occurs under normal usage conditions, without any significant changes to the server’s configuration or the game’s settings.
Reproduction Steps
- Initial Server Setup: Configured the server for a 4-user gaming experience, ensuring all required software and games were properly installed and running.
- Observation of Memory Usage: Noticed that, over time, with the server running, the memory usage gradually increased, indicating a potential memory leak issue.
- Troubleshooting Attempts: Attempted basic troubleshooting steps such as restarting the server, updating all software to the latest versions, and checking for known bugs in the game and server software documentation, but the problem persisted.
