Problem Description

Issue

When trying to change the new minecraft instance I created to forge I continuously get this same error. “Download / Update failed : Couldn’t determine the URL to fetch an update from. You may need to install this server type manually.”

Reproduction Steps

  • Create minecraft java edition instance
  • Make sure server is running
  • change server to forge
  • Receive this error “Download / Update failed : Couldn’t determine the URL to fetch an update from. You may need to install this server type manually.”

Have you picked which Forge version you want?

I am unable to as I am met with a blank box after trying to select it.

Restart the instance and wait 5 minutes before managing it.

Thank you for the reply but unfortunately, I am still left with the same issue after a restart and waiting to manage it.

Check the instances logs (Right click → view logs in ADS) and see if it’s having difficulty querying Forge version information.

I checked the log and the error I’m getting is “Failed to get latest Forge version data from” followed by a maven.minecraftforge.net I’m not at my computer right now so I’m unable to ping the address currently but I’ll give an update in about 2 hours

edit: When pinging the website “maven.minecraftforge.net/net/minecraftforge/forge/maven-metadata.xml” I receive a " Name or server not known" error but when pinging something like google.com the ping goes through

edit 2: After digging a bit more it appears it might be some sort of network issue and I’m currently contacting my VPS provider about this issue
