Problem Description

Issue

Recently all my minecraft servers are preventing me from connecting. “Failed to verify username”. Sometimes I can restart my modem, log out of my launcher, flush dns and restart my PC to get connected. However, this is no longer working. So today I tried to edit the server.properties file line 31: online-mode from true to false. But the server keeps overwriting my change to the file and I cannot find a place to change this in the UI. Please help. I am using an authentic minecraft account. I own Minecraft but this is the only thing left I could think to try.

Reproduction Steps

  • Open Minecraft
  • Click Multiplayer
  • Attempt to connect to server.

Usually happens with Forge servers, but can occasionally happen with other ones.
Fix should be to disable Disallow proxied connections under Server Settings and restart the MC server

online-mode=false is never a fix, as that will mess up saved user data
